Learn the most crucial information about your dog before you plan a vacation with him. From this article you will learn how to properly prepare for an outing with your dog.

An effective strategy for traveling with your dog to organize a trip with your pet.

Before you go with your pet on its first camping trip, you will need to carefully plan the entire trip. After all, throughout the trip, your travel partner should be calm, safe, and most importantly, healthy.

Preparing and planning a camping trip with a dog:

  1. Your dog should visit the vet before long trips. Make sure he has received all recommended vaccinations and disease precautions.
  2. If you are traveling abroad, be sure to find out what the rules are for bringing a pet into a country.
  3. In addition, don’t forget to bring your pet’s passport, which is basically required to legally transport your pet.
  4. Make sure your dog has a secure method of transportation.
  5. Get your pet used to longer car rides gradually and slowly.
  6. Find veterinarians that are reasonably close to the campsite where you will be vacationing and find their addresses and phone numbers.

Your dog needs to be accustomed to the means of transportation and driving so that he feels comfortable while traveling. This is the only way to guarantee that your pet will be comfortable on long journeys and will be calm at all times. Of course, frequent breaks at rest areas are required when traveling with a dog.

Rent a caravan and take your dog with you

If you don’t already have an RV or caravan, you’re probably considering renting one. But is such a rental for traveling with a dog even possible? Caravan and RV rental company regulations govern everything in the rules. Transportation of pets is expressly prohibited by some companies, while it is permitted by others with specific conditions that have been agreed upon. Look in advance for vehicles whose owners rent them to people with four-legged dogs without problems. However, if you do not completely remove dog hair from your vehicle, you may have to pay more for a thorough cleaning after a trip with your pet.

How to take your dog with you and keep him safe in your RV

When you and your pet are planning a camping trip, their safety should come first. You have two main alternatives for safely transporting your dog in an RV: put him in a carrier or secure him with a special safety belt.

The perfect dog carrier for your caravan

One of the most common methods of taking pets on camping vacations is through a carrier. Such a container has a number of undeniable advantages:

  1. The best level of protection for your pet will be provided by a carrier that is permanently attached (for example, using the transport straps in a truck).
  2. Closed containers prevent your dog from seeing through the window. More anxious dogs will thus be able to travel more smoothly. In addition, pets that experience motion sickness will travel more comfortably in an enclosed space.
  3. The carrier will become a safe haven for your dog to go to once he becomes familiar with it.

Remember, however, that a carrier always takes up more space than other options for transporting your pet when making plans and packing.

Dog harnesses and seat belts in motorhomes

Another way to secure your pet while driving is to use a seat belt. You attach the dog to the latch of conventional seat belts next to the seat on which it lies, using a snap hook attached to the collar. In addition, specialized pet leashes designed for car travel can be purchased. In any case, attention should be paid to choosing high-quality belts. However, neither belts nor harnesses will give as much safety as a proper carrier.

Regulations governing the carriage of dogs in vehicles

There are currently no regulations in Poland that explicitly set guidelines for non-commercial transportation of animals in cars. Animal Protection Act of August 21, 1997. In Art. 1 paragraph. However, Article 2 stipulates that “In matters not regulated by the Act, the regulations on things shall apply to animals accordingly.” Accordingly, the cargo on board the vehicle must be arranged in accordance with Art. 61 para. 2 points 3 and 4 and paragraph. 3 of the Law of June 20, 1997. The Traffic Law says that we place cargo in a vehicle in such a way as to prevent it from shifting and interfere with the driver’s ability to steer the vehicle. That being said, you also need to remember that keeping your dog while traveling in a caravan will be too risky for your dog. On the route, you will not be in contact with the dog and, if necessary, you will not be able to react to its disturbing behavior. In addition, if there is an accident, the dog may suffer much more serious injuries.

Left in the sun and heated, a vehicle can quickly turn into a dangerous place for a dog. Use air conditioning to keep your pet at a comfortable temperature. Keep your car periodically ventilated and park it in the shade. Don’t forget to give your dog enough water to replenish the fluids it loses while breathing during the day.

How to find campsites that allow pets while camping with your dog

Even though taking your dog on a camping trip may seem like an ideal idea, keep in mind that not all campgrounds allow dogs. Before you leave, confirm that your dogs are welcome at your chosen destination to avoid unpleasant surprises. If the official website does not provide any accurate information, try calling the campground owner. Remember that many places charge an additional fee for your dog.

Standards that a dog-friendly campground must follow

You can easily find campgrounds that allow pets on their grounds, as caravanning vacations have recently become very popular and many people can’t imagine a vacation without their dog. Each time, however, check whether the chosen resort is pet-friendly.

When preparing for the vacations, you should pay attention to, among other things:

  1. The possibility of taking more than one dog with you and the reasonable cost of pet fees.
  2. Availability of designated areas for walking dogs on four paws. In addition, there must be places near the campsite that allow you to take a leisurely walk with your pet.
  3. There should be enough trash cans available so that you can simply pick up after your dog without having to travel long distances while carrying poop.
  4. Access to water bodies. If the campsite has beaches and is close to a lake, it is important to know if dogs are prohibited from swimming.
  5. Outdoor showers for animals. Occasionally, you can find facilities that are specially designed to take care of your pet’s cleanliness, greatly increasing the comfort of traveling with your pet.
  6. Possibility to use a parcel of land with a fence. Some campgrounds have additional security measures in place to prevent dogs from running loose, while preventing them from being constantly restrained by a leash. A popular way is to have your own mini fence.
  7. Play areas for dogs. Areas where you can take care of the activity and proper training of your pet are also becoming increasingly popular. It is worth finding places that offer this opportunity.
  8. Pet care is available. Campsites occasionally provide petsitter services. Camping Tumiany does not provide such a service.
  9. Access to a veterinarian is easy. If you need medical help, you should be able to find it quickly and conveniently.

How to relax while camping with your dog

There are some common guidelines to follow when visiting pet-friendly campgrounds. If you follow them, you can easily avoid unnecessary disputes with other tourists:

  1. Clip your dog to a leash and go for a walk. Even the best behaved and trained pets should be walked on a leash while camping. Try not to let your dog run around aimlessly, as not everyone may like his presence around.
  2. Once your pet has satisfied its need, collect all the dog feces that are on the ground. You should clean up any poop and place it in the appropriate container, including the ones your dog has left around the tent, trailer or RV and the ones they have made while walking.
  3. By doing this, you will prevent disputes and serve as an example to other people who keep animals.
  4. Don’t leave your canine companion for an extended period of time. Your pet will be experiencing something new on his first camping vacation, which can make him tense and anxious. He may become restless and engage in undesirable behavior if you leave him locked up.
  5. Grocery shopping can be done virtually anywhere while traveling. Pet food, however, is less common. If your pet needs a specific diet, keep this in mind before you travel and make sure you have enough supplies for the trip. Changing his diet while traveling can cause him unnecessary stress.

Your dog will follow you wherever you go because he is a loyal friend, so he is sure to be the perfect traveling companion. However, you need to organize your vacation properly if you want it to be an amazing adventure that you will never forget. Make sure your pet is prepared for the adventure and is safe and calm during the ride. You can help your pet cope with the hardships of the trip by keeping him entertained throughout the ride and giving him adequate breaks. Remember to consider camping comfort when making plans. Make sure your dog is as welcome as you are. This will allow you to successfully enjoy your trip with your dog and avoid unnecessary discomfort.
