DETAILED PLAN OF THE CANOE TRIP ROUTE
BARCZEWO – WADĄG – OLSZTYN.
River Pisa, Lake Wadąg, River Wadąg, River Łyna
The Łyna River , one of the largest rivers in Warmia and Mazury, is about 200 kilometers across Poland. The Lyna River is very varied from a calm lowland river to a brisk hill stream.
Olsztyn the capital of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, where sightseeing of phenomenal monuments can be intertwined with relaxation in nature. Nicolaus Copernicus was stationed here. Associations with Olsztyn include Prussian baba, dzyndzałki, karmuszka, Łynostrada and many others.
Wadąg a charming village on the canoeing route that is a weekend destination for area residents. Its charm and tranquility are increasingly appreciated by tourists. An interesting feature is a working small hydroelectric power plant, created from a former mill.
Barczewo is known as the Venice of the north, as there are more than a dozen bridges over the rivers. Beautiful forests, clean lakes and rivers and numerous Warmian monuments are tourist attractions.
- Rafting begins in Barczewo with the Kiermas canal, flowing into the river Pisa of Warmia. ATTENTION ! when launching the canoe on the fast current of the river.
- Leaving Barczewo, we pass a bridge on road 16 (Olsztyn-Mrągowo). The current of the Pisa River becomes slower, in places it may accelerate. We pass picturesque landscapes, fields and meadows, high banks covered with forest.
- Before the river enters the lake, there is a marked encampment, which we pass as we enter Lake Wadąg. Due to the size of Lake Wadąg, we may encounter strong ripples.
- We sail along the left bank and then turn left into a long bay. At its end is the outflow of the Wadąg River.
- It is possible to stay overnight at the Reed Valley Campground – a camping site.
- It is possible to finish the rafting trip Barczewo-Wadąg. The Wadąg River flows out of Lake Wadąg. After about 2km we flow along it to the village of Wadąg, from where Olsztyn public transport buses run. It’s a good point for the tour’s finale. As a result, if you end your canoe trip here you can easily get to the city.
- Continuing the route we arrive at the small hydroelectric power plant Wadąg. Here we face a portage on the right bank through the power plant area. WARNING: strenuous launching from the high bank, a section with many rapids.
- Swimming further leads to the village of Kezliny, where there is another hydroelectric power plant and a second portage on the right bank.
- Behind the power plant, the Wadąg River accelerates its current. On both sides of the river are high banks covered with forests. NOTE! Obstacles in the water in the form of stones and possible windfalls. In a further section, the current of the river slows down and then disappears completely.
- Influence on the dam lake of the Łyna power plant, where the Wadąg joins the Łyna River (the site of the Łyna River Spring Reserve).
After passing the bridge on the right, the Barczewo-Olsztyn rafting trip ends.
